Rebuilding your relationship with social media
Create a more loving connection with technology.
In the digital realm, where souls intertwine,
A loving connection with tech we shall find.
Through mindful intentions and heartfelt embrace,
We'll navigate this vast cyber-space.
I am recently returned from a week in Austria, where I had the privilege of being a guest at Cari Merriam’s Dynamic Healing coach training retreat, where a group of women from Berlin gathered to learn and practice the method.
During our time together, the topic of social media emerged repeatedly! As new coaches stepping into the world of wellness, they must also navigate the challenges of showing up, sharing, and marketing themselves online. The conversation around their social media struggles kept coming up in sessions and over meals, and also for Cari too. So I offered to lead a session in which we would examine their relationship with social media, even incorporating breathwork – a first for my workshops!
‘In only one hour, Katie shifted my perspective on Instagram from a stressful space of comparison to a playground of possibilities, shaped by my intentionality and energy. Katie empowered me to face my shadows playing out in my social media relationship and move into devotional leadership in my community creation. Thank you so much!’ – Carla
By moving the focus of social media beyond the cognitive realm into the body and by working with our emotions and with spirit, fascinating insights can emerge. It was heartwarming for me to witness the responses from a group that have never encountered this side to my work before.
‘I was totally mind-blown by the playful and sacred approach to the topic of social media that has brought me so many bad feelings in the past. The ideas, insights and, most of all, amazing poems made my inner world shift and allowed me to open to a new possibility to be in relation with social media. I never came across anyone who touched this topic in this unique, magical and exciting way. I will add the books to my library so anyone, especially my children, can benefit from them! Thank you! I feel moved, blessed, and transformed!’ – Sunny
In our digital age, technology has become an integral part of our daily lives. We use it for personal communication, work, entertainment, and so much more. Through these social media platforms, technology has woven its way into the very fabric of our relationships and everyday interactions. But, can we create a loving, nurturing relationship with social media and technology itself so it serves us and others in a healthy and balanced way?
With these thoughts in my heart and mind, along with the potent energies of a full moon lunar eclipse in Scorpio and the influence of Pluto and Mercury in retrograde, this transformative energy can help us to reassess, re-examine, and rebuild our relationship with social media. In doing so, we will nurture our soul, serve our communities and connections, and support both our personal and professional wellbeing, ultimately fostering a loving connection with technology.
Recognising Where You Are Not in Love
A first step to creating a loving relationship with social media is to acknowledge the areas where you are not in love with it.
Please take a moment to reflect on your current thoughts and feelings about your relationship with technology with contemplate these Inner Unicorn Questions…
Are you using social media as a tool to gain attention or validation?
Are you in your social media ego or social media soul?
Are you sacrificing your wellbeing in the way you use social media?
What aspects of your relationship with technology do you find challenging or unfulfilling?
By beginning to identify these areas, you can start to address them and create a more loving dynamic with them.
From Cognition to Feeling
To move beyond the cognitive aspect of social media and into the realm of emotions, consider how your interactions with technology make you feel in the present moment.
Are you uplifted, inspired, and connected, or do you feel drained, overwhelmed, and isolated?
Now visualise yourself in a peaceful, serene field where my unicorn guide, Starlight, appears before you, radiating love and wisdom.
Invite Starlight to help you uncover any hidden feelings about your relationship with social media and technology.
She bows her unicorn horn which connects her to you – breathe deeply and notice the emotions that arise within you. Allow these emotions to flow, trusting that Starlight's loving presence will support and guide you in this journey of self-discovery around your relationship to social media.
Return here whenever you need to and write down what comes up.
Creating Devotion to Social Media
Now that you've begun to uncover some of your emotions around social media and technology, it's time to cultivate some love for these platforms. Here are some practices that have helped me create love and devotion in my relationship with technology:
Frequency and Frequency: Setting a balanced frequency (how many posts per week) and paying attention to the energy or state/ energetic frequency you are in when creating content. Remember that quality is more important than quantity, and your energy impacts your audience.
Framework for Your Flow: Consider which formats and platforms resonate with you and your message. Be open to experimentation and finding the right balance of content that feels authentic and engaging.
Make it a Living Prayer: Infuse your connection to Source and creativity into your social media presence by bringing in rituals and creating sacred space while creating content. This practice will help you stay grounded and aligned with your highest intentions.
Scheduling with Inspiration: Set aside time in your diary for content creation and schedule it using a scheduling tool like Meta Business Suite or Planable – but also be open to the spontaneous moments of inspiration that may arise.
Intention of Service: Approach social media with the intention of being in service to others and to yourself and your business. Recognise the potential for growth and transformation that can come from sharing online.
