Sometimes stillness speaks louder
A permission slip for your digital wellbeing this season
It’s summer.
The sun’s been blazing, school’s almost out, and festivals are go!
The scroll don’t stop… But maybe we can.
Fresh out the fields of Glasto Fest, I was invited to give a talk at Camilla Collin’s Power & Presence retreat in Bath. I spoke about social media, obviously, but rather than share how-to’s, we went deeper into why we show up…
And when we might choose not to.
I loved hearing the women come up to me afterwards, creatives, coaches, founders, saying…
“I’m going to pause.”
“I think I need a break.”
“That helped me let go of the pressure.”
One woman told me she’s decided to take three months off socials to review and reset.
And Camilla, who invited me to speak with her community, also shared this afterwards,
“I used to believe I should show up no matter what.
Pretend to be fine, gloss over it…
But I don’t anymore.”
And I loved that. Because it named something we don’t always speak to…
The comedown.
The energetic hangover.
That stretch of space after we’ve given a lot.
Especially for those of us who hold space.
Create. Care. Perform. Post.
Those who are generous with our essence, online or otherwise.
We’ve been trained to push through.
To post anyway.
To “stay consistent.”
To “just get something up.”
We must remember that…
“Something” isn’t better than nothing.
Sometimes stillness speaks louder than even a scheduled post.
(And that says a lot coming from ya girl that loves a scheduled post).
Sometimes the pause, the breath, the blank square is actually what keeps your magic alive online and elsewhere.
✨
I’ve just come out of a month-long pause from Substack and my usual IG rhythm. As mentioned above, I was off running socials for The Common at Glastonbury Festival throughout June…
And speaking of the magic of a pause…
We aligned our strategy with digital wellbeing this year…
“We’ll be going quiet on the grid while the field is alive. Because some magic’s meant to be FELT!✨”
And still… our content has been viewed over a million times!!
Our best year yet.
But we didn’t want to encourage people to look at their phones during the festival.
The sun was out.
The bass was lit.
And that.
That’s it.
Sometimes digital impact comes after embodiment.
When you’ve lived something real,
you don’t need to force things
RESONANCE carries.
I teach social media like its a garden.
Not as a treadmill. OR a competition.
Of Comparison.
Of SELF or other.
A season. A cycle. A space.
Something to tend.
Something to be in relationship with.
Summer itself is a SEASON.
A time of energy, visibility, growth.
It brings heat. Busyness. Holidays. Chaos. Overwhelm.
Especially if you’ve got kids off school, a full calendar, or a mind that won’t quit spinning.
This season can trick us into overriding what we actually need.
So listen to this as someone who knows that you get to choose.
You can rest in summer too.
You can go quiet when your system says stop.
✨
Power + Presence = Sustainable Visibility
I love this as a reframe or even as a new metric!!
Power is your essence.
The part of you that doesn’t perform.
The part of you that just is YOU.
Presence is your ability to be with what’s real.
To notice your breath.
To know when you’re full.
To know when to wait
to take a pause.
To know when to show up rooted in yourself.
To not have to be everywhere, all the time.
But where and when it matters.
With intention.
And in a way people can feel.
In a way that creates trust.
Which builds resonance.
That’s what actually lasts.
✨
Camilla shared this after my talk:
“Last week, I brought in @katiekdot_socialmediaangel to speak at Power & Presence about this exact thing - the pressure we put on ourselves to keep churning out content, keep showing up, keep feeding the machine even when we’re running on empty.
We both believe that energy transfers. You can wrap your words in an upbeat tone, or draft in AI to write something... but people will still feel what’s underneath.
And if what’s underneath is disconnected, forced, and untrue… well, then that’s exactly what lands.
Sometimes "something" isn’t better than nothing, and sitting privately in the stillness with it is your best option.”
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
People feel your essence.
Even through a caption.
Even with Ai.
This is why I say: post from resonance.
From alignment. From what’s real.
From what you are here to share.
Not from pressure.
Take it from me, if you’re feeling flat, or frazzled, or just full from life, this is your permission slip…
To pause.
To rest.
To go quiet.
To tend your own FIELD first.
To listen to your own rhythm.
To take a breath
before broadcasting.
This is how we rewire our relationship with visibility.
It is not by shouting into the void.
It is by sharing when and with what’s real.
Even the scheduled stuff.
Because when you do post
from POWER and PRESENCE
we feel it.
